Unit 6.2A Assignment

On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.

Kahoot

Description of Site:

Kahoot is a game based response system. In my previous school we had mimeo votes and we would use them for quizzes, assessments, etc. This is similar but uses the students own technology to ask questions. I would not want to use this for summative assessments but for a quick check, pretest, or brain break it is a great site. It is free for the administrator and players. I like that students (or whoever) do not have to be members to play. They just go to kahoot.it, type in the game code, make a user name and it starts. Not extra sign ups or fees. For collaboration I like that I could have students send me questions and I could quickly create a quiz that the students made themselves. Anyone can create quizzes and they can be used in and out of school. I love that it is easy to use by everyone and students of all grades and levels can use this tool with the right reading levels.

Educational Uses of Site

This response system can be used for asking any sorts of questions. I could see teachers use this as a pretest or Check for Understanding. I would not suggest using this as grading since I have seen students get very competitive and just make quick guesses instead of correct ones or in the heat of the moment press the wrong button. It is a fun tool and very easy to use.

Review of Site

Come on teachers, we love free stuff. And a free site where we don't have to take time for students to sign up, perfect! Also who doesn't love a good game system. Students can work by themselves or with a partner to answer questions. For my technology club my students created their own Kahoots and we played each of them. Very fun to see students using technology appropriately and having them be excited and fully engaged in the topic. Try it out for yourself!
